CULTURAL WEEK

Extracts from the book, Crystal Road

"Every year the school organised a Cultural Week - a week long festival of a host of cultural activities from music and dance to performances of plays, poetry and stories as an end-of-the-year event.

"How Param saw the benefits and success of such initiatives is best captured in the following report:

We want our children to grow up conscious of their rich and colourful heritage. The Cultural Week each year has been a tremendous success. It has been a strengthening factor for the teacher-pupil relationship, and has brought into the limelight some of the so-called "dull children" in classrooms. There has been active participation by nearly all the pupils, and parents happily see their children perform. Each item is a galore of colours in the field and brings a loud applause from the spectators.

And so the children learned about their heritage - the mosaic of cultures that is Malaysia - and about cultures beyond their shores."
